Plans for homes in field in St Martin's

Tuesday 31 May 2022

A planning application has been made to build four three-bedroom and five four-bedroom houses on a green field off Les Oberlands in St Martin's.

The application states that the site, which totals 3,149 square metres, is not in a conservation area nor an area of biodiversity importance nor an Agricultural Priority Area under the Island Development Plan.

The plans include 18 parking spaces – two per house – and secure bicycle storage for each property.

The properties would have private south-facing gardens.

Some roadside planting would be lost to accommodate new vehicular and pedestrian infrastructure. The applicant says this would be mitigated by retaining trees at the south of the site and further planting and landscaping.

The application is made by Miss S Chauvel. The agent for the application is Lovell Ozanne. The plans will now be considered by the States' Development & Planning Authority.

The application states: "The site is located within the main centre outer area of St. Martins, bordering on the parish of St. Peter Port.

"The site is within walking distance of the amenities of [Town] and is in close proximity to the hospital and is located on a bus route."

The plans include various ecological considerations, such as the installation of bird and bat boxes across the site.

The homes would include sustainable design features, such as roof-mounted solar panels, rainwater collection containers, highly insulated panels and thermally efficient glazing.
