Plans for Liberation Day 2021 “well underway”

Saturday 20 February 2021

Events and activities are being planned for Liberation Day, with the organising team following advice from Public Health.

The theme this year is #GuernseyTogether and people who don’t usually take part are being urged to come forward.

A decision on how the day will be celebrated has not been made yet, but we are told it will be made well in advance of the big day.

“We know how important Liberation Day is for islanders in the Bailiwick,” said Education, Sport & Culture President Andrea Dudley-Owen.

“While we are still working on being able to celebrate in person this year, we are also looking at digital content too.”

The Head of Marketing and Events for Sport & Culture, Nikki Symmons, wants to try and get as many people involved as possible.

“We are hoping that if we are able to celebrate in person, then local community groups and individuals will be keen to get involved.”

“We would love to hear from anyone who may not normally take part in the day but would be keen to join us by dressing up or entertaining the crowd as they lead the cavalcade in St Peter Port."

You can stay updated on the plans by following the event on Facebook or on their new Instagram page @liberationGSY.
