Places still available on Monday's World Aid Walk...

Saturday 30 April 2022

There is still time to take part in the World Aid Walk this Bank Holiday Monday.

There are two routes available: 20km starting from Rovers’ sports ground at 10:00 or 10km starting from Pembroke at 12:00.

You can register online by clicking HERE until 16:00 on Sunday or you can register on the day at the start points at Rovers and Pembroke.

More than 750 walkers have already signed up. A walk in Herm – which is capped at 150 entrants – is now sold out. But places are still available for the two routes in Guernsey.

Taking part costs adults £10 online or £15 on the day and young people under 19 £5 online or £8 on the day. Children under the age of five can walk for free.

The World Aid Walk is sponsored by Specsavers, which allows every penny raised to go directly to five beneficiary charities: ActionAid, This is EPIC, the Eleanor Foundation, Christian Aid and the Tumaini Fund.

The States' Overseas Aid & Development Commission has agreed to match the funds raised by the event, which means every donation will go twice as far towards helping causes which respond to poverty globally.

Natalie Tucker, a member of the organising committee, said: "We’re pleased to be able to return to our traditional May Bank Holiday date this year and to see that so many people have already registered to take part in the Walk.

"This will help our charities to make a massive difference to so many people living in poverty around the world.

"We’re also grateful to our generous sponsors and volunteers, without whom the event could not take place, and especially to the Overseas Aid & Development Commission for kindly match funding every penny raised."
