Petit Train back on track

Tuesday 19 June 2018

The Petit Train is back in operation following six weeks off the roads waiting for a part needed for essential repairs to the vehicle.

The train was due to be operating from Easter until the end of October but was taken out of service for the repairs on 1 May 2018, only returning to its familiar tourist trail yesterday.

Notice was given on 30 April 2018 that the train would not be running the following day due to repairs, but more than a month later it had still not returned due to the delayed arrival of a part required in the repairs.

Until yesterday, the last update on its Facebook site was on 4 May 2018, when it was stated: "Due to the delay in the part arriving there will be no Train service over the weekend. Our apologies for any inconvenience. We wish you all a lovely weekend and see you next week."

The train was out of service during a peak time with Bank Holidays, half term school holidays and many cruise ships visiting. Some disappointment was expressed by both locals and tourists.  One lady wrote on Facebook: "What a shame, arriving on a cruise ship tomorrow and planned to do this trip!"

The train, which was named 'Victor' when it was launched had fast become a welcome and recognisable sight around St Peter Port during the summer months, with the distinguishable sound of the bell heard several times a day.

The owners had previously said: "The Petit Train is high-end engineering and sourcing parts can sometimes be challenging."

They then confirmed to Express yesterday: "Yes, Victor is all fixed and back!"

Their Facebook page also welcomed the news: "Petit Train up and running! Come down to the Albert Pier for a sunny trip around St. Peter Port. See you all soon."
