Halfway Café to make way for housing

Tuesday 06 April 2021

The former Halfway Café on Vale Road is set to be developed into flats after planning permission was granted.

The top floor flat has already been renovated into a rental property and the café is now in the process of being converted into another flat. Planning permission has also been granted to demolish the existing store and build eight garages.

The café will become a two-bed apartment. Another two properties could eventually be built on the existing carpark comprising of a single storey structure; the application for this part of the development has been deferred.

The popular café shut its doors last year and planning permission for the development was sought by the owner of the land, Jonathon Le Moignan.

Six people made representations to the original application, raising concerns about the potential loss of privacy and the negative impact on adjoining properties.

Those representations were focused largely on the impact the construction of an entire new building in the car park. As a result, that proposal has been dropped for the time being and is no longer included in the current application.

A right of way through the car park to a number of other properties will, however, be retained.

The plans were devised by PF&A Ltd.
