Guernsey Water has applied for planning permission to build the first of potentially many permanent refill stations.
St Saviour's Reservoir is encircled by the Millennium Walk and it has been chosen as the first site for a permanent refill station.
“Following the success [of the scheme] Guernsey Water is investigating the installation of a number of permanent refill stations across the island,” said Customer Service Manager, Margaret McGuiness.
Pictured: The stations are ‘vandal-proof’ and completely mechanical, without the need for an electricity supply.
It’s hoped the installation of the refill station will reduce the amount of plastic waste left in the area, as it promotes the use of re-useable bottles.
The walk itself was chosen due to the high number of walkers passing through and the perfect place for GW’s first refill station.
“We fully support the promotion of staying hydrated, together with any reduction in single use plastic bottles, by making water freely available to islanders and visitors alike when out and about,” said Ms McGuiness.

Planning permission is still pending, with representations welcome until the 1 June.
