Party outlines draft policies at conference

Thursday 20 August 2020

The Alliance Party has announced its six draft policies at its first party conference.

The conference was staged at St James Concert Hall last night.

During the event, the party opened up on its draft policies for the first time since its inception in February this year.

A summary of the key draft policies are as follows:

  • Reduce the cost of access to medical services for low to middle income groups and ensure access to dental services for all children up to the age of 16 within the next States term.

  • Implement the three-school model with a sixth form college, supplemented by scholarships.

  • Introduce three tiers of housing for local only residents, local and license holders, and anyone.

  • Actively protect all existing green spaces and encourage development of brownfield sites.

  • A pledge not to introduce a Goods and Services Tax (GST), Value Added Tax (VAT), Capital Gains Tax (CGT) or Inheritance Tax in the next term.

  • Legalise and enable the use of medicinal cannabis and investigate the practicality of decriminalising the possession of small quantities of personal use.

Mr Weir said the party has more than a dozen candidates ready to stand in the October election.

"We’re keen to get even more people on board to stand as Deputies. People interested in standing as a party Deputy [can] meet us and find out more about the process of standing and how we can help."

More information on the party's policies can be found here.
