Town parking spaces revert back to two-hour

Thursday 29 October 2020

The three-hour parking spaces on the Albert Pier, Crown Pier and North Beach have been switched back to two-hour, now that the covid testing facility is up and running on the East Arm.

The limits were lengthened earlier in the year, when social distancing measures were still in place, to allow shoppers more time for queueing outside shops.

Once social distancing measures were removed, it was decided the changes could remain to support the hospitality sector.

But, now that the Phase 5c on-arrival testing facility near the harbour has been put to use, there are fewer long-term parking spaces available in Town.

In an attempt to rebalance Town parking, around 80 of the three-hour spaces have been designated as ten-hour, while the rest have reverted back to being two-hour.

It's hoped the changes will increase turnover of vehicles so shoppers can easily find a short-term parking space.

Some temporary signage has been put out to notify people of the changes.
