Out of hours appointments available

Monday 10 April 2023

Fresh efforts to encourage more women to go for cervical screening have led to out of hours appointments being opened up at a variety of different places across the island.

The Choices and Orchard Centre clinics have varied their opening hours, with all of the GP practices also extending their opening times.

Health officials had worried that women - and those with a cervix - who work full time or in shifts, and/or have children may have struggled to make appointments during the traditional 9-5/Monday to Friday schedules.

Now, either Choices or the Orchard Centre will be open until 18:00 or 19:00 on weekdays with Saturday lunchtime appointments also available at Choices.

Queens Road, St Martin's and St Sampson's doctors surgeries will all have Saturday morning appointments available, with weekday appointments across all of the individual surgeries with appointment times varying between 08:00 and 18:00.

Health officials have stressed that cervical screening is available for women and anyone with a cervix aged between 25 and 65. Doctor's surgeries will send invitations to patients registered with them.

Appointments are free if booked with a nurse, but a fee is charged if booked with a GP.

The appointments take around 15 minutes and patients can ask for a chaperone if they wish.
