Open day for latest GHA development

Wednesday 30 January 2019

The Guernsey Housing Association is inviting the public to have a look at several new properties at its Courtil Reveaux development this Saturday.

Just opposite the Coachhouse Gallery on Les Islet Arsenal, St Saviours the development has five properties available for partial ownership sale and four properties for rent.

Partial ownership is a form of tenure letting buyers purchase between 40% and 80% of a home, with the remaining equity being held by the GHA and rented to the occupant at a discounted rate. The initiative was designed to help those who cannot afford to buy their own home, get on the housing ladder.

The properties at Courtil Reveaux have already been allocated to people on the GHA’s waiting list but Saturday's open day will give anyone who wants to see them a  chance to see the type of homes the GHA is building.

The site will be open to the public from 10:00 to 12:00 on 2 February with two one-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom houses available for viewing.

Steve Williams, Chief Executive of the GHA, said: “Partial ownership is a great way of helping house buyers in Guernsey, who cannot otherwise afford to buy in the local housing market, get on the property ladder.

“Courtil Reveaux is our latest development and we are steadily building more partial ownership homes to meet the needs of islanders. We also have homes sold back to us every year as people move up the ladder and out onto the regular housing market. These properties are then sold by the GHA to new buyers from our list.

“Our properties are built to a high standard and we invite the public to join us on Saturday morning to take a look around four properties to see what we offer, learn more about partial ownership and rent and chat to our team.”

Some of the development is built over an existing German command centre and access has been left through a manhole in a rear garden. Festung Guernsey will be allowing the public to view it but we're told not to dress too smartly as you have to climb down a tunnel to get into it.

Anyone interested in the GHA’s partial ownership scheme should complete the application form on GHA’s website at gha.gg or call the GHA office on 245530 for a form. Eligible applicants will be placed on a waiting list; the waiting time to be allocated a property has reduced and is two-to-three years depending on the type of property and location required.
