'Old guard' called up for Siam clash

Saturday 11 May 2019

Guernsey's manager has called up the old guard to help the Raiders retain the Siam Cup when they face Jersey Reds today.

The annual showdown between the island rivals is being played in Jersey this year - 12 months after Guernsey won all four trophies during an epic day at Footes Lane.

For 2019, the Raiders said Jordan Reynolds "has called in the old guard to get Guernsey over the line in Jersey on Saturday."

For the men's XV, the Greens will not only have Malcolm Barnes back at scrum half and Luke Sayer at full back, but also ‘Horse’ himself, Jim Elliott, bolstering the side.

After a season of sometimes struggling to field the XV he wanted, the Raiders said Reynolds had "virtually a full deck of cards to shuffle" when choosing his squad for today.

The mens team to face Jersey today is:

Sam Steventon, Tom Ceillam (vc), Layton Batiste, Lewis Hillier (c), Nick Merrien, George Shannon, Dom Rice, Douglas Horrocks; Malcolm Barnes, Owen Thomas, Anthony Armstrong, Elia Morisio, Jason Batiste, Jim Elliott, Luke Sayer.

Replacements: David Anderson, Cameron Craine, Harry Baron, Matt Creber, Dale Martin, Chris Ahne, Tom Teasdale.

The women's team to face Jersey today is:

Andrea Harris, Jilian Smith, Laura Sweeney, Kristine Vavere, Michele Schofield, Ellie Whittles (C), Vicki Rang, Tanya Scholtz, Lucy Pratt, Justeen Baker, Carly Duchemin, Hannah Guilbert, Chelsie Blondel-Power, Aimee Le Bachelet, Lael Hollingworth.

Replacements: Asha Holberry, Megan Irven, Janelly Casas Zarate, Emma Rayson, Sophie Ferbrache, Georgia Denziloe.
