Octopus enquiries continue

Tuesday 27 February 2024

The burnt out shell of Octopus has now been 'handed back' to its owners, after Guernsey Police finished forensic examinations at the scene.

The restaurant at Havelet Bay was gutted in a fire on Saturday, but luckily no one was injured.

Now, a spokesperson for Guernsey Police has said that officers have finished their examinations there, but enquiries are ongoing.

They've also asked members of the public to stay away from the site.

The police spokesperson said: “Forensic examinations have been carried out at Octopus today. Enquiries are ongoing as to the cause of the fire, however the ‘police scene’ has now been closed and handed back to the owner. Guernsey Police will continue to assist the owners with securing the site, however, for public safety purposes and to ensure no one attempts to enter what remains a dangerous premises.”

The owners of Octopus, Mike and Delpine Pesrin-Auder have not made any further public comment on the fire which devastated their business since Saturday.

At the time, they thanked the emergency services for all they had done, while pledging to reopen their beach bar and restaurant.

Writing on Facebook, the couple said "we are both absolutely devastated but realise the important thing is nobody was hurt." They also offered thanks to their "wonderful staff" who they said "are as upset as we are".

"We will of course be closed for quite some time, but…we will be back!" the post had also stated.
