New zebra crossing on Upland Road

Tuesday 13 August 2024

A new zebra crossing has been installed on Upland Road. This has been done mainly to improve pupil safety.

“Improving road safety remains one of Traffic and Highway Services’ top priorities, and with so many people crossing at this location, it’s a really sensible place for a new crossing to be installed,” said Paul James, Road Safety Officer.

“It’s really good as well that we were able to install this at a time when the road was already closed for work being carried out by Guernsey Water so that we could bring about this positive change with minimal disruption to islanders.”

The crossing includes tactile paving for people who are visually impaired.

The States of Guernsey say the new crossing supports the objectives of the On-Island Integrated Transport.

“We are delighted to have worked in partnership with the States Traffic and Highways Services department to achieve this outcome,” said the Bursar at Elizabeth College, James Couchman.

“The new pedestrian crossing in Upland Road will improve the safety of students and staff moving between lessons during the school day and will also help to encourage motorists to watch their speed when driving along Upland Road.”
