New traffic measures "for road users' safety"

Guernsey Ports installed a set of speed bumps at North Beach at the weekend on the one-way road leading out of the harbour area in order to "improve road safety", however they have since been removed.

The speed bumps, which took the form of several circular humps as opposed to a larger one across the whole road, were placed in front of the pedestrian crossing near the Sark Shipping office.

Similar speed humps were recently installed by the Model Yacht Pond. A spokesman for Guernsey Ports said that they had been installed to "curb the speed of all vehicles exiting the harbour."

"These measures, and those in the future, are designed to promote the safety of all road users," he said.

"These measures will be monitored for their effectiveness by Guernsey Ports, and any changes that may be required will be made."

That has happened already, with the new speed bumps removed yesterday, just days after they were fitted at the weekend.
