New routes to Newcastle

Sunday 15 December 2024

Blue Islands have announced new summer seasonal flights, between May and November 2025, from Guernsey and Jersey to the North-East airport.

Both Guernsey Ports and Ports of Jersey have welcomed the new route, with hopes it will increase connectivity and benefit the islands' economies.

Any passengers flying from Newcastle will have the choice of flying directly to either island, or with a short stop over. It’s dependent on the selected schedule, as not all flights are direct.

Here’s the announced schedule:

Guernsey to Newcastle: Non-stop flights on Tuesdays (May 6th to October 28th). Flights with a short stop at Jersey on Thursdays (June 26th to September 11th).

Newcastle to Guernsey: Non-stop flights on Tuesdays (May 6th to October 28th). Flights with a short stop at Jersey on Thursdays (June 26th to September 11th) and Saturdays (May 3rd to November 1st).

Jersey to Newcastle: Non-stop flights on Thursdays (June 26th to September 11th) and Saturdays (May 3rd to November 1st). Flights with a short stop at Guernsey on Tuesdays (May 6th to October 28th).

This will be the first time in several years that travellers will have the option of up to three weekly direct flights between the Channel Islands and Newcastle. Previously, travellers would fly into other airports in the north of England and then travel by road or rail journey to reach the north-east.

Blue Islands has a long-standing partnership with Loganair, which offers year-round connections from Newcastle to the Channel Islands via Southampton.

In statement Ronnie Matheson, Blue Islands’ Chief Revenue Officer, said: “Blue Islands’ new schedule will make a real difference for the many thousands of customers wishing to fly between the north-east, Guernsey and Jersey, whom we’re sure will welcome the choice of up to three direct flights each week.

“We’re confident that this will become a firm favourite in our route network.”

There’s further confidence from the North-East, according to Chris Ion, Newcastle Airport’s Aviation Development Manager.

“We are excited to welcome Blue Islands to Newcastle Airport. Jersey is a popular destination with passengers from the north-east of England, and this new route will provide more choice and flexibility when flying from Newcastle - whether for a short break or visiting family and friends.

“Guernsey is a new destination for next summer and is a fantastic addition to our growing route network at Newcastle Airport. I am confident these new services will be well received by customers wishing to explore the Channel Islands.”
