New pathway to be painted on Rue des Bordeaux and Castle Road

Thursday 04 January 2024

Preliminary lines have been drawn up in preparation for a new 1.3 metre-wide ‘footway’ to be painted on Rue de Bordeaux and Castle Road.

It comes after the Vale Douzaine “persistently” reached out to Traffic and Highway Services for mitigation measures.

Late last year a member of the public took to the bank with a strimmer to open up visibility on a notoriously dangerous bend.

More recently, line markings appeared on the two roads and it has since been confirmed that changes are being made.

“Having spoken to the Senior Constable in the Vale, we’ve agreed some positive changes to improve road safety on Rue des Bordeaux and Castle Road,” said Mark Brockway, Senior Traffic Officer.

“We will soon be painting a 1.3 metre-wide footway on both roads next to the coast. As well as this, we will be introducing new markings and a bollard on the junction between the two roads so that vehicles turning left onto Castle Road from Rue des Bordeaux will be required to give more space to those walking on the road next to the coast. To accommodate these changes, we’ll also be adjusting other road markings.

“Improving road safety for all road users, particularly those who are vulnerable, is one of our main priorities, and we believe these changes will improve safety for people whether they are walking, driving or cycling.”
