Rouge? Rood? Another Red restaurant in the pipeline

Guernsey's restaurant family 'Red' have expansion plans on the horizon, as they are looking to take over another unit on the Lower Pollet.

Earlier in the summer, the chain's owner Dave Matheson announced to customers that they 'might just have a new lil' member to [their] Red family' by the end of the year.

This, the announcement said, was barring any unforeseen issues before the end of the year.

Red and Rosso

Red and Rosso are two of the group's restaurants. They open both onto the sea front and also on to the Lower Pollet at the back.

In Guernsey's Development & Planning Authorities' listings for last week, Mr Matheson was listed as applying for a change of use from general retail to 'cafe' (class 11 food) in number 52 on the Lower Pollet. This unit is just down from the group's other three restaurants - Red, Rosso and Tinto.

All three of those restaurants, a pizzeria, steak house & cocktail bar, and tapas bar are also in the Lower Pollet.

52 Lower Pollet used to house Guernsey Beds and Bedding, but is currently to let.

All of the groups' names are derived from the word Red in different languages - what this new enterprise will be called is yet to be seen.

In the July newsletter, Mr Matherson also said thank you to all of the restaurants' customers and sponsors for being involved in raising £25,000 for a number of charities - both local and international - in the last year. That was thanks to their C.H.O.W initiative, which, sponsored by Specsavers, looks to raise money through people enjoying food.
