New Manager appointed to represent interests of young people

Guernsey’s Family Proceedings Advisory Service has appointed Jackie Batiste as the new Manager of the Family Proceedings Advisory Service (FPAS).

FPAS was set up to represent the interests of children and young people in public and private legal proceedings where care of children is an issue, such as divorce and welfare cases. She will take up the role on the 21 June.

The appointment fulfils one of the recommendations made during a recent Ofsted inspection, which concluded that the appointment of a practice manager could play a key role in delivering quality assurance.

"FPAS undertakes a difficult and sensitive role and it is important to ensure that we continue to deliver a consistent and proportionate approach to enquiries and interventions while keeping the welfare of the children at the heart of everything we do," Ms Batiste said.

"The team here in Guernsey are highly motivated, and I am committed to working with them to maintain the high standards of service expected while seeking to drive continued improvement."

The President of the Committee for Home Affairs, Deputy Mary Lowe, welcomed the appointment: "Jackie brings with her a wealth of experience, both locally and within the UK.  As a Committee we look forward to working with her and the FPAS team to further strengthen the processes and procedures in line with the recommendations made by the Ofsted inspectors."
