MSG supports Health Connections voluntary transport service

Tuesday 05 July 2022

Local charity Health Connections has benefited from a £5,250 donation from the Medical Specialist Group. The money will be used to help fund its voluntary transport service.

The Health Connections transport service helps people in the community get to and from various appointments and activities, including appointments at the MSG. The donation from the MSG will pay for an administrative co-ordinator now that demand for the service has increased.

It was launched to support those in the community who live with frailty and long-term conditions and has been incredibly popular. It allows them to retain their independence and one in three people who use the service use it to get to the MSG.

“I’m really grateful to the MSG for acknowledging the benefit of our voluntary transport service for their more isolated patients,” said CEO of Health Connections, Bella Farrell.

“This donation will help us cover the costs of our transport coordinators who enable the service to run smoothly and organise a caring and reliable troop of volunteer drivers, ensuring their passengers get to these essential appointments on time.”

The Chair of the MSG, Gary Yarwood, said that Health Connections gives great support to the group’s frail and vulnerable patients.

“We like to partner with healthcare and patient groups who share the same values as us,” he said.

Valerie Falla has been utilising the service provided by Health Connections and said: “I am so grateful for this transport. It has meant I can stay a little more independent which means the world to me.”

Health Connections is always looking for new volunteer drivers for the service and you can find out more ONLINE.
