Front-line health professionals among exempted critical workers

Wednesday 09 September 2020

410 people travelling to the island were granted critical worker exemptions in August, including 55 frontline healthcare workers and zero construction workers.

The States of Guernsey statistics show that the vast majority of approved applications are for workers directly involved in maintaining the Island’s air and sea links, with 307 in total throughout August.

238 of those relate to the crew on cargo vessels who do not come ashore, but still have to be recorded under the exemption.

Four education professionals were granted permission in August, along with 27 professionals tied to business continuity and recovery.

No specialist contractors, who would be required for construction projects, were approved for exemption. Likewise, no applications were approved for individuals involved in financial stability and recovery.

Alongside critical worker exemptions, 31 business tunnel applications were approved this month, allowing same-day return travel to conduct important transactions that have to be completed in person. 16 Business Tunnel applications remain pending.
