CI firm claims Carbon Literate accreditation

Ashbe Construction Limited has become the first business in the Channel Islands to be accredited as a Bronze level Carbon Literate Organisation with the Carbon Literacy Project.

That is 'an internationally recognised Climate Change education programme, which was awarded by the UN as one the top 100 worldwide transformative action programmes'.

Throughout September and October, Ashbe’s entire management team attended the required day’s worth of Carbon Literacy training, delivered by local sustainability consultancy firm Acacia Limited, which has devised a specific course directly relevant to the Jersey Construction Industry.

Louise Eden of Acacia Limited said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Ashbe, both during the training and through CLO accreditation process.

"The business has shown real dedication to adapting their working practices and making a positive contribution to reducing emissions and supporting the islands Carbon Neutral Strategy The built environment accounts for approximately 40% of worldwide global emissions, so the sector offers one of the biggest opportunities to make real reductions. We look forward to supporting Ashbe further on their wider Sustainability journey, and it’s hugely encouraging to see a business within the construction Sector making this a priority”

Ben Cairney, Managing Director of Ashbe Construction Limited said: “We are proud to be the first business in the Channel Islands accredited as a Carbon Literate Organisation. We know our industry is a huge contributor to global emissions, and this is the first step towards our goal of being the Environmental Contractor of Choice in Jersey. The training provided by Acacia Ltd was fantastic and we all learnt a huge amount of useful industry specific information that we will use to facilitate our carbon reduction goals moving forwards."
