Aurigny prepares for Winter

Tuesday 10 September 2024

Aurigny has secured some new landing slots at Gatwick, and is also cutting its Stansted service ahead of its winter schedules coming in.

The locally owned and funded airline recently won a bid for the new Gatwick slots.

That means, from early October there'll be a 12.10 service to London on Saturdays, returning at 13.40, with a 17:15 departure to Gatwick on Sundays returning at 19.10.

The airline says this will increase seats to London by 35% compared to last year’s winter period.

That’s around 2,685 extra seats, should all flights take off and land successfully, and the winter weather decides to play nice.

The additional Gatwick services will come at the cost of the Stansted routes however.

The States owned airline confirmed staff have already reached out to affected passengers.

An Aurigny spokesperson said: "With the added Gatwick flights this winter, we are pausing our Stansted schedule. While the Stansted route yielded positive results this year, passenger feedback indicated a significantly higher demand for services to London Gatwick and London City.

“Passengers already booked to Stansted for the winter period have been contacted to make alternative arrangements, having been offered the option to rebook onto same-day departure or arrival to Gatwick or London City, or a full refund to their ticket."

Speaking about the new slots at Gatwick, Aurigny’s Chief Commercial Officer, Sudeep Ghai said: “Ensuring that our island remains well-connected throughout the winter season is essential as we want to ensure we are doing all we can to serve the people of Guernsey and our visitors.

"This expansion is a direct response to the clear preference demonstrated by our passengers, who have consistently favoured London Gatwick as their London airport of choice. We are committed to continually improving and expanding our services to meet the needs of the Bailiwick community.”
