More non-States members needed

Sunday 07 January 2024

Members of the public with experience in financial, commercial, or legal matters are needed to join the States' Scrutiny Management Committee.

The Scrutiny Management Committee is responsible for leading and co-ordinating the scrutiny of other States' committees by reviewing and examining legislation, policies, services and the use of monies and other resources for which they are responsible.

The SMC currently has two non-States members sitting with three Deputies, who each have equal voting rights.

There is a vacancy for one of the non-States members to run from now until the next election, due to be held in June 2025.

Whilst there are no formal qualifications required, relevant experience in financial, commercial, or legal matters, is highly desirable, and the required time commitment is around 20 to 30 half-days per year.

Committee and review panel meetings are normally held monthly and there will also be opportunities for potential membership on short-term review projects focussing on specific topics.

Anyone interested in being considered for the non-States member vacancy on SMC should send their CV with a covering letter to the Scrutiny Management Committee, Edward T Wheadon House, St Peter Port, GY1 3WH or via email to scrutiny@gov.gg by Friday 19 January.

Further information is available by calling the Office of the Scrutiny Management Committee on 220410, or by emailing scrutiny@gov.gg.

The applicants proposed by the Scrutiny Management Committee will require formal endorsement by the States of Deliberation.
