Not enough households have responded to letters requesting participation in an expenditure survey, with the States now asking for volunteers to ensure “essential data” which helps to benchmark inflation and inform future government policy is collected.
The Data and Analysis team say these responses are crucial to determine how much to increase pension, social security rates, maintenance payments and more each year.
Helen Walton, Head of Data and Analysis said: “It is really important that we get enough respondents to represent the population and we have some ground to make up before the October deadline.
“A team of fieldworkers is out and about knocking on doors and we continue to send invitations to take part to randomly selected addresses. A common emerging theme is that, in comparison to previous years, people seem to be available at home less.
“Therefore, we are now providing the option of completing the fieldworker assisted questionnaires over video call for those who would find this more convenient.”
The household expenditure survey is conducted every five years and runs for a full year, with at least 1,000 homes wanted to take part.
Spending over two weeks will need to be tracked through a diary, which will be kept confidential. A “fieldworker” will also be on hand to assist homes to fill out a questionnaire and answer questions.
Cash prizes are also available for those who complete both parts: Either a draw for three top prizes between £50 and £150, or smaller amounts for each person in the home.
The survey closes in October, and anyone who wants to participate between now and then is asked to call 07781 419273 or go ONLINE.
