Miss Africa Guernsey looks to take on the rest of the UK

Monday 21 October 2024

Nadine Azári is looking to claim the Miss Africa crown at the nationally run Beauty pageant, and is hoping we will all support her.

Miss Azári is taking on the grand final at the end of this week, and is using the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for Guernsey Mind, as her charity of choice.

Nadine Azári says there’s a mix of emotions for her as the bid day creeps closer and closer.

“I’m definitely feeling a mix of excitement and nerves as the finals get closer," she said. "It’s been such an incredible journey, and I want to give it my all.

"I’m just returning to pageantry after a couple years off and I’m just grateful to be representing Guernsey and can’t wait to take the stage on Saturday.”

Last year’s event saw 23 year-oldStephanie Danho claim the crown, and it could be Nadine taking home the bragging rights this year if everything falls into place.

There’s still a lot to be done before then though, she said.

“A lot of time, energy, and dedication goes into preparing for a pageant like this, from fitness routines and practicing public speaking to rehearsals and charity work, it’s a full commitment.

"I’ve also been raising funds for Guernsey Mind, which adds another layer of purpose to the preparation. It’s about balancing everything while staying focused on the bigger picture.”

You can vote through the Pageant Competitions website, and Miss Azári says it not only helps her get a step closer to her dream, but also helps fund and promote a good cause here in Guernsey.

“Islanders can support me by voting online and spreading the word, every vote counts and brings me one step closer to the title.

"You can also support by donating to my GoFundMe or in person for Guernsey Mind, a cause that’s incredibly important to me.

"The encouragement and support has already been absolutely amazing, and it means the world to me.”

Ahead of the competition, she had one message to those looking up to her, wondering if they too could compete one day.

“I would tell them that absolutely, it can be them!

"If you have a dream, whether it’s in pageantry or something else, don’t be afraid to go after it. It’s about believing in yourself, working hard, and staying true to who you are. Everyone’s journey is unique, and you never know where it might take you if you’re willing to put yourself out there.”
