Misadventure verdict recorded

Thursday 28 November 2024

An entrepreneur who lived in Sark died of 'misadventure' after potentially going swimming or snorkelling in the Creux Harbour.

Cyril Douchin was born in Caen France in 1992, but until his death he lived in Sark.

His body was discovered in the sea approximately 50 miles off the coast of Devon, on 23 September 2021.

He was wearing a wetsuit, boots, and gloves when he was found.

Winchester Coroner's Officer yesterday heard that it has been accepted that Mr Douchin "intentionally entered the sea on or after 25 August 2021 in the vicinity of Creux Harbour, Sark". But the inquest heard that it can't be ascertained how he came to be in the sea, "whether it was to snorkel, kayak, swim or other activity".

The last known contact with Mr Douchin was on 25 August 2021, almost a month before he was discovered near Devon.

The inquest heard that the date on which Mr Douchin died cannot be confirmed so it has been recorded as the date on which he was found.
