The minimum wage for adults and young people working in Guernsey will increase at the end of the year.
Deputies have approved increases of 40p in the adult wage per hour, up to £8.50, and 55p in the young person's minimum wage (16-17), to £8.05.
The increases are part of a wider initiative agreed in the medium Term Financial Plan to uplift the minimum wage until it reaches 60% of median earnings by 2023.
Employment & Social Security President Michelle Le Clerc said they were committed to meeting that target, whilst also being mindful of a recruitment environment which has caused staffing problems for some local industries.
The Committee recognises the need for employers to attract and retain quality staff. The Committee considers that to do so, Guernsey must, among other things, offer pay rates that are attractive compared with other competitive jurisdictions.
