Minimum wage goes up from today

Tuesday 01 January 2019

The minimum wage which employers must pay their staff in Guernsey goes up from today.

For adults, the lowest rate they can be paid is now £8.10 per hour, in most circumstances. Some employers are able to pay less if accomodation and meals are provided as part of their employees terms and conditions.

For 16 and 17 year olds who work, their minimum hourly rate is going up to £7.50.

The States made the decision to increase the minimum wage during 2018 following a consultation period which both employers and employees were able to have their say.

The States then decided to raise the minimum wage for 18-year-olds and over by 35pence per hour, and for those workers aged 16 and 17 by 45pence per hour.
