Winning a Christmas card competition meant one lucky girl also won a £500 bonus for her school.

Rebecca Ozanne of La Houguette School used a lot of sparkle on her card design, which paid off for her and also meant the competition organisers, Redwood Offshore Limited, had an eye-catching card to send to their clients this year.

The firm wanted to send out personalised cards, but also wanted to give children the chance to show off their creativity.

James Wood, Chief Executive of Redwood, said; “This competition has been great fun and, we hope, a really good experience for all the children that entered. We believe that it is vital that their development is diversified and inclusive and we are very proud to partner with the Guernsey Arts Commission and Grow Limited, organisations which both reflect these values.”

Mr Wood and Russ Fossey of the Guernsey Arts Commission were both on the judging panel and they favoured Rebecca’s design, which featured green glitter, pompoms and cotton wool snowflakes.

As well as having her design sent to all of Redwood’s clients and contacts as their official Christmas card, winning the competition also earned Rebecca’s school £500 worth of GROW vouchers, which it will spend on plants and trees.

Mr Wood said: “We loved Rebecca’s sparkly design and the bursts of colour that came from the pompoms. Adding cotton wool snowflakes also gave the design depth and detail to a simple but effective card. It really stood out.”

The competition’s judges also picked out several runners up.

Elijah McLagan of Vauvert School was commended in the Key Stage 1 group for his unusual design using materials such as pompoms and buttons.

In Key Stage 2 Gracie Ozanne of Melrose’s card using colours, paper and jewels was highlighted by the judges for its brilliant layered look.

Hillside Pre-School’s Lucas Stuart also created a stunning card to be awarded the best entry in the ‘early years’ category. His card was bursting with colour and used a wide variety of decorations.

Mr Fossey said: “Congratulations to all the winners. We’ve been thrilled with the entries, it’s been fantastic looking at them all and seeing the artistic talent of all the children who entered. We wanted to give everybody a chance to see them so we have created a display at Waitrose Admiral Park for islanders to enjoy whilst they do their Christmas shop!”
