Allister Carey has been awarded an MBE for his work supporting communities in Tanzania and Uganda.

Mr Carey was named in the 2022 New Year Honours List and received his medal from Guernsey’s Lieutenant-Governor on Saturday.

“The MBE is awarded for service or achievement that is outstanding in its field and has delivered sustained and real impact,” said His Excellency, Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell.

“This charity is a wonderful tribute to the young woman for whom it was named, with a great many people in the developing world continuing to benefit from the selfless work of Mr Carey and his team.

“The Eleanor Foundation is something of which the Bailiwick can be very proud. It’s clear that Mr Carey is thoroughly deserving of this award. His work stands out as an example to us all.”

Mr Carey set-up the Eleanor Foundation after his daughter – Eleanour Carey – tragically died in a cycling accident in London. The Foundation has since helped improve access to clean water, sanitation and education in communities in Tanzania and Uganda.
