Marine ambulance out twice

Thursday 02 April 2020

The Flying Christine had to make two trips to Sark within 24 hours as two residents needed hospital treatment in Guernsey.

While no details have been given about either patient's medical needs, it is unusual for the marine ambulance to be dispatched in such quick succession to the same location.

The first trip was made during the morning of Wednesday 1 April, when the Sark doctor called for help for a female patient who needed treatment in Guernsey.

The St John marine ambulance, with a paramedic-led medical team onboard supported by a volunteer boat crew, set off at around 10:00, before getting back to St Peter Port Harbour with the patient on board just after 11:15.

She was taken to the Emergency Department of the PEH to be further assessed and treated.

The second call out came in the early hours of this morning, just over 12 hours after the marine ambulance had docked back in St Peter Port.

The Sark doctor called for help again from the St John marine ambulance for another patient thought to need hospital treatment.

Another paramedic-led medical team from the Emergency Ambulance Service together with a volunteer boat crew left St Peter Port harbour on the vessel shortly before 01:00.

They brought the patient back, to be transferred to the ED at the PEH.

St John Ambulance Guernsey would like to thank the volunteer boat crew who responded during the night and the clinicians who attended this case, and the team who responded to the earlier day time call as well.
