A 57 year old who had indecent images of children on his mobile phone and Google storage drive has been spared prison by Guernsey's Magistrates Court.
David John West was found guilty of making one Category A image - the most severe category -, three Category B images and eight Category C images.
They were all of children under or appearing to be under the age of 16.
West, who made the images sometime between June and November 2018, has been given community service orders as an alternative to prison.
The longest of them, which is the one he will serve, is for 180 hours of community service as a direct alternative to nine months in prison. That sentence is for the Category A image.
West, who was a hotel porter at the time of his arrest, will also serve a two-year probation order. He also has a five-year sexual offences prevention order and a five-year ongoing notification requirement.
If West fails to comply with those requirements, he will invoke the prison sentence.
