999 and other calls from landline telephones are currently down for users in St Peter Port and St Sampsons, affecting hundreds of businesses and public services.
Sure Guernsey, which is responsible for fixed telecoms infrastructure in the island, acknowledged the problem earlier this morning.
It said engineers are currently investigating the issue.
999 calls can only be made via mobile in these areas.
Sure’s contact centre is also impacted by the outage.
St John Guernsey said it was aware of “island-wide” issues and said its switchboard and the Non-Emergency Patient Transfer Service lines aren’t working.
“However you can email accounts@stjohn.gg. This email is being monitored while telephone lines are down.”
Guernsey Electricity is also affected and said customers should email or message on social media if assistance is required.
