The Lt Governor needs some new Cadets

Wednesday 08 February 2023

The Youth Commission is working with Government House to find a new group of young adults to work alongside His Excellency Richard Cripwell as his Lieutenant Governor Cadets.

The role is seen as a prestigious accolade locally and also helps those young adults wanting to forge careers in the armed services, or other public sector spaces.

Each year up to five young people are chosen to be the Lieutenant Governor’s Cadets, with the new cohort joining His Excellency during his second year in the island.

They will support him at events and appointments including award ceremonies at Government House, The King’s Birthday Reception, the Liberation Day Parade and the annual service of Remembrance.

In addition, the Youth Commission says the Cadets enjoy a unique position helping the Lieutenant-Governor understand the values and perceptions of young people in the Bailiwick and to voice their opinions on the future of our Islands.

Current Lt-Governor’s Cadet Henry Whittaker said his experience in the role has been very special - particularly with the historic events of last September.

“Being a Lt-Governor’s Cadet is a great honour and something I will be proud of for the rest of my life," he said.

"Furthermore, to have partaken in the activities I have this year, specifically carrying the Union Standard for the King’s proclamation, is something I would never have imagined myself doing. I am looking forward to everything else to come this year with great anticipation and excitement”.

Government House will be hosting an evening on 29 March to organisations and charities who work with young people to better understand the role of the Lt-Governor’s Cadets and the application process.

The 2023/2024 cohort of Cadets will be interviewed in late June ready for an investiture evening presentation at the beginning of September.
