Lowly hygiene rating for airport cafés

Wednesday 16 October 2019

The new restaurant facilities at Guernsey Airport have been given just one star under the island's food hygiene rating standards.

Bailiwick Bar and Kitchen only opened this summer but were assessed on 8 October where a number of improvements were found to be needed.

The management of food safety is the area in most urgent need of improvement according to gov.gg with systems or checks needing to be put in place to ensure that the food sold is safe to eat.

Bailiwick Bar and Kitchen also needs to prove staff know about food safety and cleanliness and the condition of the facilities both airside and landside need to be improved.

Due to operational reasons, Caterleisure was not available for interview but issued the following statement through Guernsey Ports.

“Caterleisure (Guernsey) Ltd are very disappointed to have received such a low Food Hygiene rating for Bailiwick Bar and Kitchen at Guernsey Airport. We are still experiencing a few early teething issues, but we would like to re-assure our customers that we are working tirelessly to improve our service. We are liaising with both the Guernsey Office of Environmental Health and Pollution Regulation and the client to resolve the issues raised and have requested an early re-visit from OEHPR inspectors to rectify our current rating. Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive since we launched, we would like to thank our customers for their support during this time and continue to enjoy our new service.”
