Candie Gardens will be shut overnight for the upcoming Renior exhibition.

It is part of the additional security measures being put in place, with police dogs also being exercised while the gates are locked.

Renoir in Guernsey, 1883 opens on 30 September.

“Preparations for the Renoir exhibition which is taking place later this year at Guernsey Museum & Art Gallery are now well underway,” a States spokesperson said.

“As part of these preparations, the Museums team has been working with Guernsey Police to implement some changes to the security of the museum, to ensure it is ready ahead of the arrival of the artworks.

“In the near future, staff will begin locking the gates of Candie Gardens at night to ensure the site is secure. This measure will remain in place for the duration of the exhibition, which ends on 17 December 2023."

The States is still deciding what times the gates will be locked between.

Signs have been placed on the two main gates saying that police dogs exercise in this area.

“The Police Dog Section will be taking advantage of the locked gardens to exercise their dogs in the park later in the evenings. Signs have been put up to make the public aware the dogs will be in the area, however this will only be after the gates are locked.”
