Local YouTuber awarded for subscriber milestone

Smash Fishing has reached a YouTube milestone by surpassing 100,000 subscribers.

Jay Le Gallic launched the channel to record his fishing and foraging around the coast of Guernsey.

“I just fancied filming my fishing, we started making videos for a bit of fun, and it just took off from there really," he said. "It gained traction and it hasn’t stopped growing since."

He has now been awarded a silver ‘play button’ for growing his audience. The 'play button' awards are given to YouTubers who reach certain milestones, with silver for 100k, gold for one million, and diamond for 10 million.

“I think it’s been so successful because of the diversity and what we try and get across, we don’t just stick to fishing, we do foraging and boat fishing, we do a lot and I think it keeps people interested,” he said.

It has reached people from across the globe, who Mr Le Gallic talks with during live streams.

“We have viewers from absolutely everywhere - we’re speaking to people from Africa, Asia, and Australia,” he said.
