Les Banques lights removed, but closures remain elsewhere

The high number of road closures across Guernsey will continue to cause some additional congestion this week, but the temporary traffic light along the front have been removed earlier than planned offering some relief there.

Those lights, near Ian Brown's Cycle Shop, were due to be in place until tomorrow. They were removed over the weekend after the work in the area was finished earlier than planned.

On Saturday morning a spokesperson for Guernsey's Traffic and Highways Services team said:

"Thanks to the efforts of Geomarine staff and Guernsey Gas engineers, the temporary traffic signals that have been in place whilst Guernsey Gas engineers have carried out works at Les Banques will be removed in the next 24hrs once asphalt has cured and site plant and guarding removed."

There are a number of other roadworks taking place this week, with Sure, Guernsey Electricity and others behind them.

Earlier this year, the Environment and Infrastructure President acknowledged that there may appear to be more roadworks than often, as Sure works to install Fibre internet across the island and other roadworks and maintenance projects are still catching up from the covid lockdowns.

St Andrew 

Route de St. Andre – continuation of resurfacing works (until Friday 9 December) 

St Peter Port

La Couture – continuation of road repairs and resurfacing of footway (until Friday 2 December)

Victoria Road – closure by Guernsey Electricity to carry out service alteration (Wednesday 23 – Friday 25 November)

Brock Road – between The Grange and Rosaire Avenue - closure by Guernsey Water to carry out the installation of water services (Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 November)

St Sampson

Les Grandes Maisons Road – between Richmond Corner and Longue Hougue Lane – closure by Sure Telecoms to install ducts and chambers & Guernsey Gas to disconnect service (Monday 21 – Friday 25 November)

Les Tracheries – between Les Tracheries Estate and Les Petites Mielles – closure by Sure Telecoms to install cables (Monday 21 November between 9am – 4pm) 

St Saviour

Le Frie Baton Road – between Rue De La Croix Creve Coeur and Rue Du Pre Bourdon – closure by Geomarine to install services to development (Monday 21 November – Monday 28 November)

Vale

Les Rocques Barrees – continuation of works by Sure Telecom to install ducts and chambers (until Friday 9 December)

The THS spokesman confirmed that cyclists are allowed to ride through many of the planned road closures.

The exception being during any resurfacing and road repairs being undertaken including those this week at Route de St Andre and at La Couture.

The spokesperson said: "all other closures enable cyclists to ride through the road closure up to the commencement of works area. Cyclists are reminded to comply with any signs requiring them to dismount for their own safety and that of the workforce in the carriageway. Pedestrians are able to pass though all of the traffic management areas detailed above."
