Le Murier students benefit from support from Ana Leaf Foundation

Students at Le Murier School have a new trailer and hi-vis jackets thanks to funding from the Ana Leaf Foundation.

The school had appealed for a trailer to help transport bulky and heavy equipment used by the students during their Duke of Edinburgh expeditions as well as for trips on and off island. The Ana Leaf Foundation stepped forward having previously supported other expeditions organised for Le Murier students.

Le Murier School endeavours to provide a range of opportunities for their students while responding to individual needs and possible barriers to learning. The new trailer will enable the school to travel with more specialist equipment on their trips.

The 12 hi-vis jackets will be used by students in the sensory and communication group and the language and communication group whenever they go on walks which aid sensory stimulation, exercise and road awareness.

Gary Dovey, Learning Outside the Classroom Coordinator at Le Murier School, said: “The trailer will be such a great help for our school trips. Some of our students are wheelchair users and need specialist lifting equipment which can often be heavy and bulky. It’s important that we find solutions for our students' specific needs and this trailer will now allow them to travel off the island and learn in new and exciting environments.

“Being safe is also absolutely essential for all our students. Having a supply of some new hi-vis jackets for them to wear on their daily educational walks is wonderful.”

Amanda Simmons, Trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation, said that she was pleased that the donation would have such a positive impact on the school.

“We have supported Le Murier School for several years and are glad to continue to help make a difference to both the teachers and students,” she said.
