A La Perchoine auditions today and tomorrow

Saturday 01 February 2020

Local performers have the chance to bring Guernsey's history to life this weekend, as auditions for 'A La Perchoine' get underway.

The musical was first staged in 1990, but is making a return this year to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the island's liberation.

It was written by two Guernsey teachers and tells the story of the children who were evacuated during the Second World War.

More than 600 school students have already agreed to play a part in the performances, with auditions taking place this weekend for adult roles and young soloists.

Anyone wishing to audition had to register their interest beforehand on the 'A La Perchoine' website.

"I was in the production when I was nine-years-old," said Producer and Co-Director, Tim Langlois. "Now I am the same age as my parents were when I was in it and I thought it would be amazing for my kids and other children in the island to experience what was a really memorable show.

"It is so important for the island to never forget what our grandparent and great grandparents went through and how we are who we are today because of what went on through those years. Also, it is amazing to bring all the schools together and the community in what will become part of a new generation's history."

The show will be staged at Beau Sejour from 14 to 16 May.
