La Mare staff also support of delay

Friday 24 January 2020

55 of 61 staff at La Mare have written to support their colleagues at St Sampson's in calling for a pause on work on the one school model of Education.

90.16% of the High School's staff said they agreed with St Sampson's staff's stance on the matter, according to a letter published on Deputy Neil Inder's Facebook page.

The letter from St Sampsons, signed by 95.6% of its staff, went into great depth ripping apart Education's plans, systematically going through each element and pointing out their concerns. While that letter also contained some misinformation, which Education have since carefully pointed out, La Mare's staff wanted their support for the letter to be known, according to Deputy Inder.

Education have been releasing videos on social media recently to try and better explain their plans.

In a shorter letter, they said: "Fifty-five of the sixty one (90.16%) staff currently employed at La Mare De Carteret High School are writing to confirm our support for the staff at St Sampson's High School, following their recent letter and stance on the Education, Sport and Culture’s plans for the one school, on two sites, model.

"We would further like to call for a pause and review of the transformation plans and for all nonselective options to be considered objectively, in order to provide the best educational provision and outcomes for our current and future students."

The delay the staff are asking for is expected to come in form of a requete to the States, headed up by Deputies Andrea Dudley-Owen and Carl Meerveld. That requete has not been submitted nor released yet, however, and so the question of whether it has the seven signatories needed is up in the air.

As with the St Sampson's letter, the signatories of this statement were verified by Advocate and Deputy Peter Ferbrache.
