Kitchen knives in black bag trigger reminder from Guernsey Waste

People are being reminded how to dispose of items properly, after several kitchen knives were found “protruding” from the bottom of a black bag.

The improperly disposed of knives were found during a collection around Allez Street.

“We urge the public to adopt a mindful approach with the disposal of items, as haphazardly discarded objects not only pose a threat to lives but can also cause significant damage to our machinery,” said Operations Manager, Sarah Robinson.

Items such as knives, car parts or large metal poles, should be taken to Longue Hougue.

“If you are unsure of how to dispose of dangerous items have a good look at our web page (www.gov.gg/checkb4uchuck) which identifies the most common dangerous waste items and explains how to easily dispose of them properly," Ms Robinson continued.

There are dozens of items that should never be put in a black bin, including; batteries, digital cameras, e-cigarettes/vapes, electronic items, flares, gas canisters, laptops, and mobile phones.
