“Keep on moving”: Activities and inspiration for all ages under one roof

Tuesday 23 April 2024

A message to keep moving was at the heart of a community event at Beau Sejour which brought together different activities for people to try.

As well as the opportunity to participate in Zumba, walking football, badminton, Tai Chi, Boccia, Kurling, Qi Gong and Fitsteps, other organisations were also on hand to talk about what they offered.

This included the freshly launched Healthcare Group Masters Mile Series, four free events this summer aimed at O50s of all abilities who want to walk/run, jog or race over a classic distance but with a big social element.

“Our aim was to bring together a number of activities suitable for those who wanted to get active at any age, with any level of ability, under one roof,” said States Active 8 Inclusion Officer Caroline Barby.

“The timetable allowed attendees to try out a host of sports and physical activities that they may not have considered trying before, or had simply not had the opportunity to do so.”

Those in attendance heard a panel discussion about not just the importance of activity as you grow older, but also the motivation to do so and how you can adapt your diet to help.

“The panel discussion that was sandwiched in between the activities in the timetable was extremely informative, and certainly inspired some interesting questions. Additionally, groups running similar sports and activities were able to connect and share ideas and experiences with one another."

“There is certainly the potential to run a similar event to this in the future.”
