A 34-year-old breached self-isolation rules and sexual notification requirements imposed on him for indecent images when he arrived in Guernsey last month.
David Ronald Brain was sentenced to nine months in Les Nicolles Prison in the Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Brain arrived in Guernsey on 8 April from the UK, with plans to isolate in the island before moving to Sark to take up employment working at a guest house.
His self-isolation requirements were conveyed to him by border agency staff and a pre-arranged taxi arrived at the airport to take him to La Trelade - the hotel his new employer had booked for him.
Concerns were raised during the drive after Brain asked to be taken to Les Embruns instead, where a friend of his lived. The taxi driver refused and dropped him off at La Trelade as planned.
However, the driver noticed Brain walk behind the vehicle instead of going into the hotel, so notified the authorities. Officers turned up at La Trelade and Brain was nowhere to be seen. Around four hours later, he was tracked down to a private address at Les Embruns and arrested.
It transpired that Brain had walked from La Trelade to the Forest Road Garage to buy a drink, before catching a bus to his friend's property.
He was given a 10-year sexual notification order at the time because of the gravity of his offences, which he breached in April by coming to the island and moving to a new residence without notifying the authorities in advance.
In defence, it was said that Brain had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and had admitted the route he took from La Trelade to Les Embruns.

Brain had been living in the UK and had been struggling to find employment, so jumped at the chance for a job opportunity in Sark.
He claimed his actions upon arriving in Guernsey were "spontaneous". He said he panicked after having flashbacks to an altercation at La Trelade after he got out of prison for the indecent images conviction.
In a letter to the Court ahead of Brain's sentencing hearing, the defendant said: "I accept full blame for my utter selfishness."
Judge Catherine Fooks gave Brain credit for his early admissions, but said he had shown little understanding of the risks he posed to the community until it was already too late.
"Your actions show a blatant and dangerous disregard for the safety of this community."
Judge Fooks sentenced Brain to eight months in prison for breaching his sexual notification order requirements and one month, consecutive, for breaching self-isolation.
The Court was advised that Brain will leave the island at the end of his prison sentence.
