Guernsey company iQ has donated an iPad Pro to conduct eye gaze assessments for individuals with progressive disorders.
The device will help assess patients' comfort at using an infrared eye gaze system to work text-to-speech communication.
“As speech and language therapists, we believe that everyone has a right to a voice, no matter how that is delivered,” said Fiona Gardiner, Speech and Language Therapist.
The donated device will assist people with degenerative conditions such as Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis.
Caroline Slowey-Dickinson, Brand Director for iQ Guernsey, said: “When Fiona approached us for support, we were more than happy to help such a worthy project.
“How our products will benefit others and deliver support functions is truly amazing and a further example of how Apple products continue to reach so many people in so many different ways.”
Progressive neurological disorders are conditions where there is a progressive deterioration in functioning. Progression may be gradual over many years or even decades or more rapid over weeks and months. These disorders are likely to affect sufferers for the rest of their lives.
“We are so grateful for this donation, which will be of great benefit to a number of people who we support,” said Ms Gardiner.
