Inner Wheel supports Home-Start

Two charities have worked together to ensure that families with young children who need support continue to receive it in a non-judgemental, professional, and friendly way.

Home-Start works with families with young children, while Inner Wheel is part of the Rotary Club, and fundraises to support local good causes.

Home-Start - which is part of the Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney - was named The President of Guernsey’s Inner Wheel’s chosen charity for 2024.

This led to Inner Wheel helping to organise a family picnic event for children, and their parents/carers who attend Home-Start services.

The children enjoyed stories, songs, and rhyme time along with food, refreshments, games and lots of fun!

Home-Start Manager Emma Cusack said it was enjoyed by everyone who attended.

“Having an opportunity to share food and play games together whilst enjoying the outdoors with your family and friends is a wonderful  opportunity for all involved," she said.

"Not everyone has access to outdoor spaces at home, or are apprehensive about where their children can play safely – so we are very thankful to Inner Wheel supporting our Home-Start workers and volunteers for this event.”

Over the last year The Inner Wheel of Guernsey has held several fundraising events and a cheque was sent presented to Home-Start during the family picnic to help the charity continue with the amazing work it does.

Home-Start's Manager said this money will be a big help over the coming year too.

"At Home-Start we recognise how hard it can be to raise a family," said Ms Cusack.

"We work alongside parents and carers with a least one child in the home under the age of seven, helping them to cope with the stresses and strains of life.

"The earliest years make the biggest difference and Home-Start ensures those years count so that no child’s future is limited.

"We provide a non-judgemental professional friendship that helps families to gain the skills they need to nurture their family; helping them to grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children, improve their health and wellbeing and widen their links within the local community."
