Guernsey Ports has replaced the circular speed bumps by the White Rock Cafe with a combination of new road safety measures.

Several circular humps were installed in front of the pedestrian crossing at the weekend.

However, the new measures went down like a lead balloon and were removed by Ports just three days later.

They have now been replaced with a more traditional speed bump along the one-way road. Speed monitors have also been placed at the side of the road, while signs have been put up and planters have been moved next to the pedestrian crossing.

A Guernsey Ports spokesman has said the original installation over the weekend cost £360, however it is not yet known what the road safety project has now set them back.

In its original statement about the new speed bumps, Guernsey Ports said they would keep an eye on how the new additions went down with the public.

"These measures, and those in the future, are designed to promote the safety of all road users. These measures will be monitored for their effectiveness by Guernsey Ports, and any changes that may be required will be made."
