IB students celebrate above-average results

Students at the Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre have once again topped the worldwide average result in their International Baccalaureate exams.

It has been offering the two-year IB programme as an alternative to A Levels since 2012.

This year, for the first time it gave students the opportunity to take individual IB subjects instead of A Levels. They included History, Psychology, IT, Film and Spanish.

77 students completed the individual courses with a pass rate of 100%, while 24 more went ahead with the full IB Diploma achieving an average total point score of 32. This compares with the average worldwide point score of 29.6.

The highest local score was achieved by two Grammar School students, who were awarded 41 out of 45 diploma points - the equivalent of more than four A* grades at A Level.

Many of the local IB students have gone on to accept places at universities throughout the UK, Europe and further afield.

They joined more than 750,000 students across 132 different countries who decided to study for an IB Diploma, which continues to be a popular option for many sixth formers in Guernsey.

The Grammar School is currently the only accredited IB World School in the island.

A Level students will receive their results in five weeks' time on 15 August.
