Husband and Wife Consultants Dr Gopinath Rao and Dr Kalaivani Ramalingam have joined the MSG on a permanent basis.

Medical Specialist Group announced that they have recently appointed the couple, who bring different specialisms to the secondary care provider.

Consultant Paediatrician Dr Rao graduated from Chennai, India before training in paediatrics and specialising in neonatal medicine in the UK between 2003 and 2014, where he was a Consultant at Hammersmith Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital in London.

During his time at a tertiary referral centre in his hometown, Chennai, he improved paediatric and neonatal services and has experience in managing pre-term babies as early as 24 weeks. He has a particular interest in helping new mothers and babies with breast feeding issues and is also qualified in managing paediatric nutritional problems.

Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr Ramalingam also graduated from Chennai, India. Her postgraduate training in the UK was between 2001 to 2009, training in the Wessex Deanery and working in Princess Anne Hospital between 2006 to 2011.

After her Specialist training in Southampton in high risk pregnancy and pelvic floor surgery, she worked as a pelvic floor research fellow in Southampton. She subsequently went on to take the role as a Consultant with a special interest in Pelvic floor problems at Kingston upon Thames until 2014.

Dr Ramalingam is well versed in working with several international healthcare systems and worked for Apollo Hospitals in India from 2014 to 2020, the biggest international private care corporate hospital.

She is passionate about good maternity experiences for women and has specialist training in following up women with post delivery pelvic floor problems, setting up a special postnatal pelvic floor clinic during her time in Kingston upon Thames.

Dr Ramalingam enjoys experimenting with different cuisines and spends her leisure time "expanding her two children’s life experiences". Dr Rao loves running and having taken part in a few half marathons, his looking forward to the outdoor lifestyle in Guernsey.

Both he and his wife said they are "very excited to set up life on the island."
