With Guernsey temperatures expected to hit 29°C today, pet owners are being reminded to think of their animals while out enjoying the sunshine.
The GSPCA has already received a number of calls over the past few days from concerned members of the public who have noticed dogs left in hot cars.
"Every year we highlight how important it is that we don't take our dogs out in the car when shopping, as those vehicles are at real risk with the lovely, sunny, warm weather," said the animal charity's manager, Steve Byrne. "If your dog is left in the car - even if parked in the shade - as the sun moved it could put them at risk of heat exhaustion, which can and does lead to death."
The warning is also relevant for people who keep their pets in conservatories, green houses or other areas with little ventilation.

"At the GSPCA, we do not want to see animals lives put in danger due to the hot weather," said GSPCA Welfare Manager, Lorna Chadwick.
"If anyone has any animal welfare concerns we are here to help 24/7, so if you are worried for an animal's care please for give us a call or pop into the GSPCA reception."
Dogs will develop heatstroke if they can't reduce their body temperature and some are more prone to the illness than others, for example those with short snouts or long hair.
Signs to look out for include:
If a dog shows any symptoms of heatstroke, owners are advised to move the pet to a shaded, cool area and ring the vet immediately.
The GSPCA has also published 'top tips' for pet owners in warm weather, such as providing a cooler spot for pets to seek shade, grooming regularly and taking dogs for walks early in the morning or late in the evening.
